Toys to entertain your cats and dogs

Cat and toysPlaythings that can be pulled, tugged or chewed on belong to a wide selection of toys dogs tend to prefer. It is in their nature to sniff, paw and chew anything that appeals to them and if you do not want your best pair of shoes ruined, find pillow feather all over the bedroom floor, or your precious antique dining room table scratched and nicked you better make your way to the pet store and buy your new puppy some fitting toys.
You can never go wrong with a bouncy ball, or any hard rubber chew thing, for that matter. Equally appreciated by any pooch are various objects attached to elastic or string. They love peculiar shaped article with features that will mentally stimulate them and when you hide a yummy treat inside the toy they will stay busy for hours trying to retrieve it. It sounds like a lot of fun, until your dog suffocates. In other words, size matters! Your loving friends can get frustrated if the toys are too big, or they can choke on it if too small. Soft squeaky toys can be safe for mellow dogs, but only under supervision. Stuffed and furry toys are also not recommended. Chewed-off accessories like bells, buttons, or loose fabric may be hazardous for your beloved friends and toys stuffed with beans are just as unsafe; the kernels may get caught in their throat. Dangerous toys should be avoided and wash the ones you do buy frequently. Avoid germs, as like with human, they will make your four-legged friends sick. However, be careful as to what you use to clean. Certain disinfectant sprays may turn off your sensitive-nosed pet and the toy may lose its appeal.
Hunters by nature, cats too love to play with moving toys, which provides much needed exercise and constructive play at the same time. Felines are pickier when it comes to commercially produced play objects unless the item in question can be chased or appears quite fascinating. Kittens and mature cats would rather play with everyday objects like shower curtain rings, strings or rope pieces wiggling in the wind. They have a blast pushing paper balls around, or grabbing at moving mobiles. Laundry baskets or cardboard boxes can be transformed into tunnels and a play mouse can be easily reproduced with materials found around your home. Attach a string to your mouse-shaped masterpiece and your beloved feline will be amused for hours.
Squeaky toys may not really be fit for cats, as they usually do not have much stamina to press and squeeze the item to bring out a sound. Also try to stay away from toys that can be quickly chewed and destroyed by your purring friend, or objects with small pieces inside. A cat, just like a dog can easily choke on miniature accessories, or toy fillings.
The key to keeping your pets happy is to ensure they have plenty of toys to keep them entertained and out of trouble. Choose the items carefully and keep them germ-free.
